How to Cut Your Hair at Home
I had to do something that made me a little nervous this week… let my fiancé cut my hair!
I know I’m not the only one in this boat!
Since I’m still working and filming new content every day, I wanted to keep up with my normal hair maintenance schedule.
Lucky for more me (maybe), Daria has done some research and is helping me out. I wanted let you in on some of the tips and tricks we learned.
Have the Right Tools
We purchased this hair cutting kit from Amazon which included most of the things we used.
For a more high end experience, this is a great kit!
You can use regular scissors and whatever you have on hand, but we wanted to make sure we were doing the best job and the tools were relatively inexpensive.
Here’s a list of everything we used:
Spray bottle full of water
Work Slowly and in Sections
After spraying my hair with water and wrapping a towel around my shoulders, Daria started working in small sections.
She used the comb to determine where hair needed to be trimmed and cut small pieces at a time.
Remember that different sections of the head (sides, top and back) should be different lengths. Typically you should cut shorter on the sides and back and longer on top.
When you’re cutting sections, don’t work with too much hair at once, that way if you mess up a tiny bit, it won’t effect the whole section.
If you’re the one receiving the haircut, don’t move!
You may look around and move while you talk with your regular hair dresser; but they do this all the and no how to work with that.
Your family member is probably not a pro, so help them out and stay as still as possible.
Trust me, it’ll be better for everyone involved.
Use an Electric Razor Where Necessary
Certain spots like sideburns and the back of your neck are tough to cut with scissors.
Use an electric razor here!
This allows you to be more efficient and makes it easier to cut straight lines where there is lots of short hard to comb hair.
This a good rule all the time but especially around difficult spots like ears.
Make sure you hold the scissors in a way that will keep the blade from poking or rubbing on the person’s scalp or head – they’ll appreciate it!
We filmed a complete video of Daria cutting my hair with tips and tricks along the way, I encourage you to check it out here!
This is quite different than the content I usually create, but as a consumer advocate, I wanted to share with you something we could all use right now!
