Just in case the headlines weren’t frightening enough, there is a new headline in town causing a panic!
Rumors of a meat shortage are floating around but the real issue isn’t a shortage of meat, it is a shortage in the delivery of meat.
If you’ve never taken part in a meat subscription service, now might be a good time to start!
It’s Effecting Everyone
No one is immune to the logistic issues in the meat industry right now. For instance Butcher Box, a very popular meat subscription service that’s been around for a while, is currently wait listing new subscriptions do to high demand!
For those of you who follow me from my home in Canada, Butcher Box is accepting new subscriptions in our area with no wait!
This company is an old standby that delivers top notch meat to your door and constantly runs regular sales.
With that being said, keep in mind that the ‘list price’ on the website is often a bit exaggerated; the sales are not as amazing as they make them seem. Nonetheless, you can still get incredible meat at a great price!
While Omaha Steaks is awesome, it is more of a luxury dining experience, not really a place to buy essentials.
For your every day essential meats, Crowd Cow is one of my favorite services!
Crowd Cow is basically a farm to table service with as little involvement of a middle man as possible.
This service allows you to access grass fed meat while avoiding the grocery store and the hassle of out of stock items.
Perhaps one of the biggest bonuses of using Crowd Cow right now is that there are no stock issues! You can order the meat you need without the stress of rushing to the grocery store and hoping what you need is on the shelves.
Keep in mind, this service is different depending on where you’re located. While they deliver everywhere except Hawaii and Alaska, availability will be dependent of the farms in your area.
You will notice that the prices of the meat are a lot higher than the prices you’ll see in the grocery store, keep in mind that the quality is also a lot higher!
If you compare the meat from a local farmer and delivery service to the meat you might buy at a grocery store, you’ll probably notice a visible difference in the color and texture. When it comes to basics like ground beef, I personally don’t notice a huge difference in taste, but when I compare seafood from the grocery store to the seafood I get from local farmers and delivery services, there is a very clear difference!
To some, the source and quality of the meat is extremely important so the extra cost is worth it, especially right now when finding high quality meat at the grocery store might be difficult. It is important for you to consider the cost, quality and ease of sourcing when you’re deciding whether or not you’ll benefit from a delivery meat service.
