Not too long ago, I published a piece about my top 10 things not to buy at Walmart.
I’m back and ready to save you even MORE money at Walmart with some insider tips that Walmart doesn’t want you to know!
1. Free Samples
Before this new normal began, you might have been someone who wandered around Walmart grabbing as many free samples as you could find (I don’t blame you!).
A lot of people don’t know that you can still do this – digitally!
By using Freeosk, you can order samples of products based on your zip code.
You can score a free welcome kit with all types of parenting goodies like diapers, diaper cream, bath products and more just be creating a baby registry at Walmart!
Walmart uses a specific pattern for their pricing to let employees know when a product is at its final mark down price.
If an item’s price ends in a ‘7’, this is the items original price. Sometimes they’ll try to trick you by displaying a strike through price, often times thats just the MSRP; if the ‘sale’ price ends in a 7, that is probably the first price they’ve offered on that product.
Prices that in in a ‘5’ signifies an item’s first markdown price.
If an item’s price ends in a ‘1’ or ‘0’, it means that the item is at its final markdown price – time to buy!
Walmart is more receptive to coupons and price checks than virtually any other retailer!
Take advantage of earning cash back on grocery trips by uploading your receipt to Checkout 51.
When shopping online, you’ll notice some items are available for in store pickup but many display a disclaimer noting that the product is supplied by a third party. This means that you’ll probably receive free shipping but the product is coming from another company and not Walmart.
This can effect your ability to return the product because often times you’ll need to comply with Walmart‘s policy as well as the third party seller’s return policy, so use caution!
6. Compare In-Store and Online Prices
Often times, there is a significant difference in prices online versus in store; and typically the deals online are much better!
Price matching is super competitive online and Walmart knows that! A customer in store is less likely to compare prices side by side than a customer that is shopping online.
Walmart will price match any product available in store to its online price, so double check to see if there is a lower price online before jumping into the checkout line.
7. Save on Gas
You can save up to 3 cents per gallon when you purchase your gas using a Walmart gift card or credit card.
8. Save by Picking Up in Store
Some items that you can purchase online are eligible for a pickup discount.
If an item is noted as pickup discount eligible online, add it to your cart and select ‘pickup’ at checkout to receive additional savings!
To take these savings a step further, check the cost of having an item delivered to a Walmart store versus having the item delivered to your house. If an item is not in stock in a Walmart store, you could save by having the item sent to a store for pickup instead of having the item shipped directly to your home.
9. Checkout Behind the Glass
Typically we think of items that are kept behind locked glass as being the more valuable items; however this is not the case at Walmart!
The items kept in the locked glass displays are often some of the least expensive products in the store.
Walmart typically locks up the products that are most likely to be stolen, which are typically small and easy to grab products.
Keep this in mind if you’re looking for something like headphones – the Beats by Dre might be on the shelf (with theft protection), but there might be a cheaper option in a smaller package that is behind the glass.
If you go to walmart.com (this works better online than on the app) and type ‘clearance’ into the search bar, you will see every item that is marked down to clearance pricing.
This can be pretty overwhelming, but you can continue to narrow it down by selecting departments and categories until you are viewing all of the clearance items in a specific aisle.
Hopefully these tips help you save tons, and you can check out my latest YouTube video for even more information on these tips!
